Ao Ton Sai Accommodations

I checked out Ao Ton Sai yesterday. It is backpack-y, with a laid-back feel, full of rock climbers. It is definitely better for a lone traveller like myself: it's much easier to meet people; I had several good conversations. I will stay at a new place called Kasbah Resort. It is also 700 Baht, the same price as the place I'm in now, but the huts are nice and it's by Ao Ton Sai. There are cheaper places for 400 or 500 Baht but I did not take the time to look at the rooms. There are also really cheap rooms with shared baths.

The things to do at Railay Beach and Ao Ton Sai are: lie on the beach; rock-climb; snorkel; scuba-dive; go for a walk through the jungle; check out some caves; check out a beach without resorts on it; have something to eat or have a beer.

There are four ways to get from Railay Beach to Ao Ton Sai, as there is a high cliff between them: take a long-tail boat and try not to get charged too much; at low tide walk on the rocks between the cliff on the water, getting wet up to your knees; swim; or take a trail behind the cliff up a steep hill, which is a bit of work and takes at least forty-five minutes.
