Bangaloreans dance

Last night I went to Fusion Lounge Tuskin Verne in central Bangalore.

Earlier in the evening we had finally gotten a hard rain that cooled everything off.

I got dressed up in some decent duds and walked down MG Road to Brigade Road. A little rain began to fall again. My friend Karthik had put me in touch with a DJ in Bangalore and he got my name on the list at the door.

The club is new. It is small and dominated by a runway down the center of the room. When I walked in, models were walking down the runway and everyone was cheering.

The models were tall. Two of the women were Indian and two non-Indian. The people dancing were mostly young, asian, and women, and most were very short.

I introduced myself to the DJ who had gotten me in and stood back to watch the fashion show and the dancing.

Everyone nowadays is into hip-hop and R & B. It is a remarkable American export. At a club at Baga Beach in Goa I reflected on how everyone wants to be a gangsta.

The DJ did an excellent job turning some fantastic numbers. I heard bits of 'Caravan' and 'Mas Que Nada' mixed in.

As always, the women were completely into the music and the men were trying to keep up.

The dancing finished promptly at midnight. The place cleared out. Although everyone was dressed to kill, I think it was a pretty conservative crowd. Everyone seemed firmly in control.

As I left I met a pharmacy student from Iran named Mohammed and his brother and sister. They've been living here for about a year.

When I returned back to the hotel, "The Guns of Navarone" was playing on Zee Studio. Gregory Peck was acting very un-"Atticus Finch"-like. David Niven was acting like David Niven. The cinematography is striking and I wondered how they filmed the boat scenes landing on the beach.
