Eagle Creek Subcontinental Journey travelpack
I have an Eagle Creek Subcontinental Journey travelpack. I bought this just before I left at the suggestion of my friend David. He had taken his to Africa. I had made my own backpack after reading Ray Jardine's Pacific Crest Trail Hiker's Handbook. (Jardine followed this book with the specialized book Beyond Backpacking: Ray Jardines Guide to Lightweight Hiking.) My backpack would have been lighter, but not quite big enough for my travels. It is the size of a small rucksack. The Eagle Creek is easy to pack with zippers on a front-loading compartment. Also the zippers are lockable, which I use all the time. Andy of HoboTraveller.com is trying to create the perfect travelpack.
I have tried to follow Ray Jardine's philosophy "If I don't have it, then I don't need it!" However, I have fallen short! My travelpack is smaller than most travellers', but I have taken recently to strapping my stuffsack with my sleeping quilt to the outside and carrying a small daypack full of stuff. I don't have too many clothes, but I have a hard time parting with books and maps and I am carrying around a small computer. My pack may be smaller than others, but when I lift several packs onto a bus, I find mine is heavier than others!
I believe the Subcontinental Journey is an old model; it may have been replaced by the Eagle Creek Meridian 55L travelpack, but I'm not sure.
