Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Author: Douglas Adams
I picked this book up in March 2006 in Goa. The edition I read is actually the first four books in the series. (The link above is six books). I had read them many years ago and they served as a fantastic escape from whatever I was doing in my life. I thought it was appropriate to read this book at the beginning of my trip and get me in the travel mood.
I have a lot of favorite quotes of the series. I find they are applicable to Earth travel.
"[Ford Prefect] always found the actual traveling-through-space part of space travel rather trying."
"The introduction [to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] begins like this: 'Space,' it says, 'is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space. Listen...' and so on. (After a while the style settles down a bit and it begins to tell you things you really need to know...)"
