Hotel Sawasdee Khaosan Inn

One of my cash leaks this week has been my hotel. I am staying at the Sawasdee Khaosan Inn on Chandraphong Road, a three minute walk from Khao San Road. When I arrived it was just what I wanted. The rooms look small but clean and new-looking; it has air-conditioning, cable tv, and attached bath with hot water. Best of all it has a bed that is just the softness I like. It is 700 Baht a night, or around US$19. So it is more than any place I payed in India, which maxed out at about 600 rupees for a decent hotel room in a city, or about $14. It is not too bad, and has been part of my indulgences for the past week.

But just a few minutes walk more away behind the Wat there are places where I can get the same amenities for less. Andy Graham of Hobotraveler.com suggested Sawasdee Smile and Four Sons. These are about 400 Baht and 500 Baht respectively for roughly the same accomodations. If you want shared bath and fan instead of AC the prices are much lower.

I am probably too lazy to change for the day or two before I leave Bangkok -- I hate changing hotels or even rooms -- but will look at these places when I return.

All prices I quote are for a single room; sometimes they have a single bed and sometimes they are the single rate for two beds.
