Pantip Plaza, technological supermall in Bangkok

Two days ago I went with Andy Graham of HoboTraveler.com to go to Pantip Plaza, the largest technology mall I've ever seen. The place has four escalator-connected floors and sells anything you can think of that is technological. You can get competitively-priced computers, mobile phones, televisions, and dvd players. There are tiny shops that have every small accessory you can imagine. I was looking for another laptop-sized external drives for backing up my computer.

There are also little stands in the walkways in front of the shops. The display tables are covered with binded plastic sleeves loaded with software packaging covers. I took a look at Microsoft Office Suite Enterprise for Windows XP and a geographic information systems package, which at retail prices total probably about $1000. I won't tell you how much they cost but let's just say you and I a couple of friends could eat at Burger King for the same amount. At these prices selling this software ought to be a crime - actually, in a Western country it would be.
