Hi thanks for these pictures. I am a Ladakhi living in Europe and these pictures are the only ones I could find anywhere.

Things have returned to normal here. The Indian army rebuilt the bridges on the main road in about four days. The bridges in Changspa haven't been repaired but traffic is passing on the lower bridge. It is sunny and warm here now and the city has quieted down.

Before these tragic things happened, the valley has been experiencing very hot and intense heat. somedays the temperature soared to 38degrees. so, everyone was scared that this sort of thing is bound to happen as it has been seen couple of years ago too. Now everything is back to normal and the days are passing joyfully there. The roads linking Leh to Manali and srinagar remained closed for a week and that too has been restored. so, now everything is back in it's place and everyone should enjoy visiting this wonderland.. atleast for once.

Hi Nawang - you're right

Hi Nawang:

You're right. Ladakh was a fantastic place to visit. It's also remarkable to me how quickly the roads get repaired. I really enjoyed my trip there. And the people were great.

I did not post the photos to discourage people from visiting but rather to show that the place has been affected by rains. I considered it chance that I happened to be there when this unusual rain event happened. As a result I found it a very interesting time to be there.

Although there seemed to be some alarm and general concern by the local people when the rains persisted, people also just set about to make the repairs and do what needed to be done. I think the people of Ladakh are a hardy people used to building a life in a difficult environment and so took the events of Mother Nature in stride.

Thanks for posting, Nawang.
