I picked this up at the airport in DC the day I left the U.S. in February, 2006. I finished it in March in Goa. I saw in the news today, September 4, 2006, that the leader of the FLDS, Warren Jeffs, has been arrested.

I had read Krakauer's other book, Into Thin Air, and his article in Outside magazine about the man who died living in the Alaskan wilderness.

I like Krakauer's new journalism style. He has meticulous detail, and tells engaging stories. The connection between history and religion for the Latter Day Saints is fascinating, even if he occasionally makes statements that clearly show he believes his criticism should extend to all religions.
